March 1, 2008 – And the winner is: Manchester United of El Paso. Manchester United is the champion of the 2008 Patriots Adult Showcase Tournament. The day of soccer started at 10:00 am with the first semi-final which pitted Manchester United against F.C. Las Cruces and advancing to the final by a score of 4-1. Game #2 in the semi-finals was a tough match up with El Paso Toros playing against Galacticos. This game proved to be a bit more exciting as it went down to the wire with Galacticos emerging as the victor by a score of 4-3. The showcase tournament stage was now set with Manchester United set to take on Galacticos. The championship final kicked off at 4:00 pm and Manchester did not waste any time and took an early lead of 1-0. The score remained 1-0 at half-time and both teams pressed the entire second half, but in the end, it was Manchester United that remained on top by a score of 1-0. It was a great day for soccer which allowed the El Paso Patriot coaching staff to scout several players from the four teams participating today. In the end it is Manchester United that now has the inaugural trophy, one-thousand dollars, and bragging rights as the 2008 showcase tournament champions. The Patriot coaching staff will continue to scout players for the 2008 season and are very optimistic for a great 2008 season. The Patriots will be hosting their 2008 try-outs on March 22, 2008 and will host their first home game for the season on April 18, 2008.
