El Paso agrees to 3 year deal to secure a new Head Coach and Director of Soccer

February 21, 2008 - The El Paso Patriots announced the signing of Miguel Murillo as their new Head Coach and Director of Soccer. Miguel will take over the duties as head coach for the Premier Development League team, (PDL) and will direct the youth soccer operations. In their eighteenth season the Patriots are excited to have Miguel on staff as it fits into their ability to be true ambassadors of soccer in the El Paso region.

Miguel has over sixteen years of professional playing experience with teams such as Cruz Azul, America and Cobras in Mexico. His coaching experience extends into the professional ranks as well. Miguel coached the Pachuca 2a division team and coached the El Paso Patriots A-League team in 2002. Miguel also has several years coaching and coordinating youth teams in both the United States and Mexico. Miguel holds a FIFA International ‘A’ Coaching License. “It is his coaching and playing experience at all levels that makes this a great transaction for the Patriots,” commented General Manager, Alan Oatsvall “I am excited not only for what Miguel will do for our PDL team, but what he will do for youth soccer in El Paso.”

As Director of Soccer, Miguel will oversee the Patriot Youth Academy and will begin immediately to make improvements and additions that will allow for a detailed path of progression for development. “My plan is to use the relationships we have with college coaches to make sure we are providing opportunities to our youth,” stated Miguel. “My goal is to grow the Patriot programs and to win the PDL Championship.”

The Patriots will be hosting open try-outs next month and are in the process of hosting their Inaugural Adult Showcase Tournament making the addition of their new head coach crucial in terms of timing. One of the goals of the Patriots is to get into a new stadium and advance to the United Soccer Leagues, (USL) 1st Division. The dedication to continued development and growth of soccer Miguel brings to the Patriots will go a long way in bringing this vision to reality. The Patriots will start their regular season on May 3rd at home against the Austin Aztex with great fan promotions and fun for everyone.
